About the farm

We raise pullets from their first days of life

At V. Linkevičienės ūkis, we raise layer pullets from day-old chicks until they approach laying age. Throughout this period, we care for their housing conditions, climate, feeding, vaccinations and daily flock management.

Saulius Linkevičius founded the farm more than 25 years ago. Our work begins before a new flock arrives and continues every day until the pullets are ready for their next home.

Rearing process

From a day-old chick to a farm-reared pullet

We raise layer pullets from their first days of life until they approach laying age. Day-old chicks arrive at our farm already vaccinated, and every subsequent stage of rearing takes place here.

Our aim is not simply to raise a bird to a certain age, but to prepare each pullet consistently for its next home and the approaching laying period. At every stage, we therefore focus on housing, climate, feeding, vaccinations and daily flock care.

The pullets we sell are not simply resold. We raise and care for them on our farm from their first days of life.

The first days

Preparing the poultry house and welcoming the chicks

The poultry house is prepared for a new flock

Rearing each new flock begins before the chicks arrive. The poultry house is cleared, washed, disinfected and prepared for the new batch.

A properly prepared environment helps maintain the required hygiene and gives the new flock a clean, carefully managed poultry house from its first days of life.

The first days of life

Day-old chicks arrive at the prepared poultry house already vaccinated. During the first weeks of life, we pay particular attention to maintaining a suitable, stable temperature, adjusting it gradually as the birds grow.

This period is important to the pullets’ later development, so their condition and housing are monitored from the very first days.

Housing conditions

Climate and rearing on deep litter

The pullets’ needs change as they grow, so we assess their housing conditions throughout the entire rearing period.

Continuous climate control

Throughout rearing, we control the temperature, ventilation, air quality and overall housing conditions. The climate is adjusted to the birds’ stage of development and condition.

This is not a one-off poultry-house setting. We monitor the environment daily and adapt it to the growing flock.

Freedom of movement on deep litter

We raise our pullets on deep litter with freedom to move around the poultry house, stay physically active and develop naturally.

This system also allows us to observe the flock’s behaviour and overall condition every day throughout the rearing period.

Feeding

Feed tailored to each growth stage

We make pullet feed on our farm using recipes tailored to their age and stage of development.

As the birds grow, their nutritional needs change, so we use appropriate starter, grower and later-stage rations at different points.

We do not compromise feed quality by cutting costs on ingredients. We make feed on our farm using recipes tailored to each growth stage, so the pullets receive the nutrients they need to grow and develop properly.

Health

Vaccination and daily flock care

Vaccination under a veterinarian-designed programme

The chicks arrive at the farm already vaccinated, and further vaccinations are administered according to a programme designed by a veterinarian. The pullets are also vaccinated against Newcastle disease.

Vaccination is one part of the overall rearing process, alongside poultry-house hygiene, a suitable climate, feeding and daily care.

The flock is monitored every day

Every day, we monitor the pullets’ behaviour and overall condition, their feed and water intake, and the rearing environment.

Consistent flock monitoring allows us to follow the pullets’ development and respond promptly when we notice changes.

From day one

Until the pullet is ready for its next stage

Throughout the rearing period, we care for the pullets’ housing, climate, feeding, vaccinations and daily needs. Buyers receive farm-reared, vaccinated pullets that have been consistently cared for during the most important stage of growth.

We raise pullets for private keepers, farms and wholesale buyers.
